Routine Builder

How might we assist people with the mental transition to start working? Sticking with that question, our group came up with the idea of an app. That app will help the user to build a productive routine.

How does it work?

First the user logs into the app and sets up an account. In the profile the person tells a bit about themselves, about how they like to spend their free time and what hobbies they prefer. After that, the app takes into consideration user’s preferences. In the second step the app suggests some methods based on those preferences. The methods are repeatable actions that the user will benefit from. Out of these methods the person can construct a daily routine as they see fit. After each day the person will provide feedback on how productive they were and how suitable the routine was. With that gathered feedback the app can suggest to slightly modify the methods. The third step is the last one. It will open to the user after 21 days of effective app usage. At this point we believe that the user will already have an established and well organised routine. Therefore the app will place the methods of the routine to the special library. The user will be able to construct a brand new fresh routine combining the old and the new methods.


What we have done:

With the “How might we?” question defined, our team started to brainstorm possible solutions. After analyzing the outcome we came up with the three most prominent solutions. One was to help people to organize their working space. The other was to create a list of activities for the day. And the last one was to help people to stay focused on the new environment.

After more discussions we realized that none of the solutions actually fully answer the problem, thus we decided to combine all of their three ideas. With that combination of ideas, previous explorations, and the 2nd sources research, this is what we got: Our thought process behind the concept. With a lot of people transitioning from the office to the home office, they are changing not only the physical place where they work but the environment as well. People lose the ability to commute and lose office space that is designed to provide a better working experience. Instead, they find themselves in their own flats that are organized for everything but work. That means that they will be working less productively and more hours, or will struggle to even start working. Unless they will manage to organize their new routines.


Our idea behind the app.

There are a lot of tips, tricks, and even ready-made routines lying somewhere on the web. However, most of them are unorganized pieces of content that require quite a lot of time to be structured and adjusted for your own needs. We suggest filling this gap. We will provide an app that will gather suggestions and strategies that have been proven to be useful and will suggest them to the users based on their own preferences. We believe that in that way we will help people to save their time and make the routine building process far easier and enjoyable.
